Privacy policy

We built Real World Clock to be the clean, ad-free tab you leave open. That principle extends to your data: we collect as little as possible, and what the site needs to remember stays on your device.

Last updated 6 June 2026.

The short version

Real World Clock has no accounts and no ads. We don't ask for your name, email, or any personal details to use the site.

Your preferences — the places on your board, your theme, and your 12/24-hour choice — are saved in your browser's local storage on your own device. They never reach a server we control.

What stays on your device

When you add a city, switch themes, or change the time format, that choice is written to your browser's localStorage. It stays on your device, you can clear it at any time from your browser settings, and clearing it simply resets the site to defaults.

Sharing a board generates a link that encodes your selected cities in the URL itself. The link is created in your browser; opening it just recreates the same board. We don't store shared boards on a server.

Network time sources

To stay accurate to the second, the site fetches the current UTC time from third-party time services and re-checks periodically. Those requests are needed to correct for your device clock's drift.

Like any web request, the time source receives your IP address and a standard request header as part of delivering the response. We don't send them anything about you beyond what's required to ask for the time, and we don't combine it with anything else.

Analytics & cookies

We don't set advertising cookies and we don't run third-party ad networks. Any preference we keep uses local storage, not tracking cookies.

If we ever add privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics, we'll update this page first and keep it to counts that can't identify you.

Your control

Because everything lives in your browser, you're in control: clear your site data to wipe every preference, or just stop visiting. There's no account to delete and nothing of yours sitting on our servers.
